St. Ben’s Clinic for the Homeless staff members won Health Care Hero Awards from BizTimes Milwaukee in 2011 and 2010.  The awards recognize organizations and people who are making a difference on the front lines of healthcare in southeastern Wisconsin.

St. Ben’s volunteer medical director, Dr. Michael Johnstone, won a 2011 award.  Clinic nurse Ellen Krueger, R.N., won the previous year.  Dr. Johnstone, a Columbia St. Mary’s physician specializing in family medicine, has worked for the clinic since 2002.  He oversees the function of the clinic and helps assure the quality of care at St. Ben’s.

Nurse Krueger performs procedures such as drawing blood, educating patients about disease, and providing immunizations and TB testing.  Also, she oversees the clinic’s outreach to other sites and provides health screening and counseling at meal programs such as St. Ben’s, and shelters.
